One of my goals for the year is to structure time for students to practice a new medium before they begin a project. My hope is that this exploration will allow them to be more confident when they begin their actual project. So, Day 1 of painting was all about exploration.
I started class by showing this short presentation.

The first exercise the students completed was the value scale at the end of the presentation. They had already completed value scales when we worked with pencil at the beginning of the year, so they were already familiar with the concept. Completing these value scales using paint allowed them to work on color mixing using this new medium.
Once the value scales were completed. I asked the students to make a color wheel using only primary magenta, yellow and primary blue.
