Art 1 students were able to try out different media while drawing something they know all too well, corn!
Pumpkin Drawing LessonIn this lesson, students looked at small pumpkins while drawing in order to draw the most realistic pumpkins possible.
Goal: When given a pumpkin, colored pencils, and Linquin Oil, students will be able to draw, shade, and blend pumpkins to create smooth, realistic drawings. Students were given small pumpkins to look at and draw. They were asked to notice how the pumpkins have segments, they are not smooth spheres. We looked at how the color changes on the pumpkin as the light hits them. We worked on shading using red, orange, red-orange, yellow, and even blue. Once the color was built up enough on the page we used blending stubs dipped in the Linquin to smooth the colors. The oil creates a really smooth color pencil effect. Art 1 students worked on their pencil techniques by drawing pumpkins.
Art 1 students were challenged to create a dog collage. First, they picked a picture of a dog in portrait form. Then, they made a 1/2 inch grid on their picture and a 1 inch grid on their large paper. They used the grid to help them draw the dog's face. Finally, they used magazine pictures to finish their images.
